I suppose I should put a birthday wishlist out there. Or should I?

I like video game stuff. You know . . . I pretty exclusively like video game stuff. The other stuff I want is unreasonably expensive.

I don't want to sound like a douchebag or anything (and seriously, saying anything about gifts you receive is douchebaggy . . . douchebaggish?) but I'm pretty easy to get gifts for, but whenever my birthday comes around, people seem to want to get me any and everything at all that isn't video game involved. I appreciate the thoughtfulness and everything, but I go out of my way to buy gifts for people that they want (finances permitting). So if you see this cool $15 shirt and are like "Cameron would totally love this!!", stop and think for a second, and then just get me a $15 gamestop gift card.

I don't expect to get many gifts or anything, but hell, if I get one video game or substantial gift card, I will be ALL OVER you guy's birthdays. I'm serious! All over that shit.

So the lesson learned here today: Surprises are great. But I'll take a PSP car charger over a surprise any day.

2.11 Free rhythm
Music in free rhythm means that there are no time signatures (as in recitative, some avant garde
music, or plainchant), or else the current time signature is ignored (as in a cadenza). Sometimes
several instruments can play free rhythms at different speeds so that the notes don’t even line up,
as in aleatory music.
Normal free rhythm
For free rhythm in just one instrument, or in several where the rhythms align, create irregular
bars of appropriate lengths (choose Create > Bar > Other, shortcut Alt+B or zB) into which to
put the music.
Depending on the type of music, you can input the music in one long bar or in several shorter bars
with invisible barlines. The latter has the advantage that the music can split at any of the invisible
barlines, which will be required for a long cadenza that wouldn’t fit on one system. The downside
is that the extra bars will upset the bar numbering, though you can correct this by putting an
appropriate bar number change at the end (b 3.6 Bar numbers).
Independent free rhythms
Sometimes instruments play completely independent rhythms at the same time, like this:
Notate this in the same way as described above, but choose one of the staves as the “fundamental”
rhythm and input it first. Then add the other rhythms, but change their apparent speed using
tuplets with a suitable ratio – i.e. choose None and switch off the Bracket in the Create > Tuplet
dialog (or change it retrospectively from the Notes panel of the Properties window). For example,
in the music above the first three notes on the lower staff are in a hidden triplet, so as to fit against
the first two notes on the upper staff.
Sibelius will even play back the rhythms correctly, as if it were reading the spatial notation.
Music with multiple simultaneous time signatures
...or with barlines in different places on different staves: b 2.27 Time signatures.
Plainchant
To write plainchant, use irregular bars (choose Create > Bar > Other, shortcut Alt+B or zB) of
appropriate lengths, and use stemless notes – b Choir in the How to section of the Handbook.
Recitative
Use irregular bars (choose Create > Bar > Other, shortcut Alt+B or zB) of appropriate lengths.
For help on lyrics in recitative, b 3.3 Lyrics.
2. Notations
100
Cadenzas
Here are a couple of approaches to creating cadenzas in Sibelius. It is helpful if you calculate the
length of your cadenza (in terms of note values) before you start to input it:
* Create an irregular bar, or a series of them, using Create > Bar > Other (shortcut Alt+B or zB).
Remember that each bar you create can be no longer than one system, so you may need to create
multiple bars with invisible barlines in between. You can specify the exact duration of the
bar(s), as complex as you like, and fill them with music as normal. You should avoid deleting
(hiding) any unwanted rests if possible, as they will have an effect on note spacing even if they
are hidden.
* If you need to have regular (measured) bars of music and free rhythm simultaneously, see Independent
free rhythms above.

When you aren't awakened by your alarm clock, your first thought isn't that it's broken. It's probably that you set it wrong. Maybe you set p.m. instead of a.m. or perhaps you set the time but forgot to activate the alarm. That's what I assumed when I arrived 45 minutes late to work on Saturday.

Turns out it was broken. I showed up an hour and a half late this morning after Rhyon called my house and woke up my dad, who proceeded to yell at me for being irresponsible. I have no idea what my status is at work now. I got written up and I already had a final write-up. So I should be fired, but Rhyon kept assuring me that I wouldn't get fired because Mike (The Corporate Axe or A Soulless Tool) couldn't overrule his decision to keep me. I wonder how this is going to fly with Santa.

Yes, my GM's name is Santa.

So, my job is in jeopardy because a broken alarm clock is a two-day ordeal.
I am playing Final Fantasy XI and I have to say that for an MMORPG, there are subtle details that make the game good in that square-enix sort of way.

You'll just be walking around the city of Bastok taking in the sights and you have to stop before the drawbridge to let a giant fucking airship pass. Pretty amazing. Or you'll be grinding out some levels and lose track of what you're doing because the music is so damn catchy.

And there are moogles. Fluffety, puffety moogles. Doing mooglie things in their mooglie ways. MOOGLES.

I'm enjoying the game, but I don't foresee playing it all that long. MMORPGs steal your soul. I've never in my life played an RPG with a disclaimer before.

We're Square-Enix and we (really) appreciate your business, but fuck if we're gonna let you rot in your room playing this nonsense until you're driven mad by your own stank and attempt to make sweet love to your mouse port. Get the fuck out of your room and hang out with your friends, visit your grandma, and pleeeeease go to work. Though we love (read: LOVE!!) your money, we still have a conscience. Now start stabbing some hornets, n00b.

And then you click the "doozo" button and you're in. Pretty nuts.

I woke up after about 4 hours of sleep to hear my parents yelling at each other. Turns out my mom is leaving on Saturday for what she hopes is for good. My dad kept trying to get her to agree to help me with my school and living expenses in exchange for him waiving his right to half of all of her assets and pension and she kept refusing. She later comes in my room and tells me that she didnt agree to it because she doesn't know what her living expenses are going to be like so she doesn't know if she can contribute.

Well, fuck. Should've thought of that before you decided to leave. A part of me really doesn't want her fucking money. But I should take what I can get. I'm glad that at least my dad is looking out for me, because if not for him and Danial, nobody would be. That's a problem.

I really can't be fucking around. In the best case scenario, I won't be living here too much longer. The sooner I get out, the sooner I can keep all my financial aid, and the sooner my dad can go up to Lancaster and start over while taking care of my grandmother.

Trader Joes has all of its positions filled, So it looks like a no-go there. It's such a nice day, too.

Fuck, it's too early for this weekend to already be a bust.

Vladimir Guerrero just hit a three-run home run to take the lead against the White Sox. Maybe it was an omen that I should make a post.

So the Highwind (my land-roaming boat of a vehicle) is back in working order after the water pump sprung a leak and the thermostat had to be replaced. In a related story, I owe Danial a metric shit-ton of money. It is, though, a relief to be able to see my credit card balance at zero soon. Everything is too damn expensive.

My jury is on Friday. I'm confident that I'll do well. I'll be playing both my first four-mallet marimba etude, and my first vibraphone etude on a jury. In forum today, I had to sit and watch as a bunch of musicians who are way the fuck better than me get scholarships and this kind of thing really used to get to me. I can't but sometimes I feel like I'm wasting Dr. Carney and the rest of the conservatory's time, but I really have come far. And it's their mistake for accepting me. HAHA.

I'm going to need to do one of two things. Either get more hours at panera or get a better job this summer. I need to save some money and hopefully not allow myself to get into the financial situation that I'm in again.

The water pump on my car sprung a leak and my car overheated on the drive home from long beach. Pep Boys said that they needed to replace the water pump and the thermostat.

estimate: $391

They told me that my car would probably be done tonight. Then my thermostat starts leaking when the mechanic tries to remove the rusted screws. Now they have to replace the thermostat and I cant get my car until tomorrow. Now I have to get a ride from my dad to school on a fucking concert day.

I'm expecting this to run me close to, if not more than, $600. This is bad.

I like wheat bread. I always have. I was raised on wheat bread and we've only really been eating white bread for about 5 years. I even like those ridiculous whole grain breads that are all grainy and weird. They tend to be a bit dry, but I like the flavor.

Never in my life have a tasted a whole grain bread as disgusting as I did today. Rudi's Organic Bakery brand %100 Whole Wheat bread was so dry that I couldn't swallow it without the assistance of liquid and tasted vaguely of hay. I'm actually feeling a little sick from it . . . and a little dizzy. Like how you feel when you accidentally swallow a whole ice cube and can barely breathe for a while.

My parents must be miserable.

I had chocolate today. That was refreshing. Still ben a while since I've known the sweet caress of beef.

My parents are subjecting themselves to a body detox program consisting of taking something like 30 pills a day and eating nothing but fruits, vegetable, select grains, and nuts. They even bought a juicer to make crazy fruit and vegetable juices to accompany their almost-meals.

They told me that I could eat anything else that was left in the house so as not to waste our existing food, but I decided to show my support by eating what they eat, at least while I'm at home. It's been pretty nice to be able to snack on the dozens of fruits and veggies that we have. I've eaten a ton of dried papaya spears, pineapple rings, raw cashews, dried cranberries and lots of other munchie little edibles. Dinners have been consisting of very lightly sauteed squash, brown rice, steamed corn with sea salt, and a smoothie consisting of apple, pineapple, pear, banana, and nondairy rice-based ice cream-like frozen dessert.

I know what you guys might be thinking. "Cameron, you used to eat so well at home. Arent you miserable?" It's not too bad. I've had some digestive issues in transitioning to this fucked-up healthy diet. My stomach is so used to processing more difficult-to-digest things like fried chicken and steak that when I eat all these fruits and veggies my stomach obliterates them. I won't get into to much detail about that, but I'll just say that I've been easily dehydrated recently. I also wake up every morning feeling like I didn't eat anything the day before. I've felt really drained and sluggish these last couple of days and paired with my stomach discomfort things have been a little rough. That, and I cry myself to sleep every night thinking about my mom's meatloaf.

In other news, the school where my mom works knowingly exposed her to dangerous levels of asbestos. She's going to be suing the school for gross negligence. Interesting.
